In a world of political theater and the 24-hour news cycle, everyone seems to have an answer. Loud voices proclaim solutions to this social ill or that one. But lost in the din of flying answers and soaring rhetoric is the asking of a key question: With polarization, confrontation and separation increasing every day and common ground disappearing before us, is our government capable of restoring America?
After serving for sixteen years as United States Representative from California’s 19th Congressional District, I concluded that government is not up to this task and it is the institutions of the private sector, though weakened by eighty years of progressivism, that will fuel the rebuilding or our faltering nation.
